I think Gretsch knew exactly what they were doing, and exactly what longing they'd inspire, when they first came up with the White Falcon in 1955. It's been casting its spell ever since. On me. on so many others, and now on hirer Mike, with the 1990 Gretsch 7594 White Falcon. Absolutely magical!

A very special hire for a very special guitar. Producer Markus Dravs hired two 12-string acoustics for sessions with The Last Dinner Party, recording their second album From The Pyre in March 2025: Noel Gallagher's 1963 Gibson B-45-12N and the 2009 Epiphone Bard FT-112 'Oh, Pretty Woman'. They wanted that 12-string chime for the song The Scythe. Guitarist Lizzie had tried a solid-body Danelectro 12-string, but it wasn't giving her the depth and resonance she wanted. She then played both acoustics and the Noel Gallagher 12-string was the clear choice. I met Lizzie when I went to collect the guitars. Turns out I'm not the only one that loves Oasis ;-). A treat for her to play one of Noel's guitars - and a treat for me to have such an iconic guitar making an appearance with a band making a huge mark, and about to go bigger! The Scythe is a stand-out song on a stand-out album. If you haven't yet heard From The Pyre, go listen now!

Nicola at Subframe Media needed a guitar at short notice for film rehearsals with an Italian production company. From a shortlist to the Yamaha LA-8, all sorted. I know the guitar won't be making an appearance, but an honour to have it playing a part in the process!

The second of the three guitars hired by Cork band Little Known for their headline at The Old Blue Last. And a very special one. Guitarist Finn chose the beautiful 1966 Fender Mustang, and absolutely loved it. Honestly, with bandmates Liam and Chris on a 62 Reissue Jazzmaster and 1974 Gibson Ripper bass, it was always going to be the best of nights!

Many thanks to Liam from Cork-based band Little Known, making their headline debut at London's Old Blue Last in October. One of three guitars hired for the night, including the 1966 Fender Mustang and 1974 Gibson Ripper bass, Liam chose the 62 Reissue Fender Jazzmaster. He loved it!

And it had to be great service! Maria's sister, professional classical guitarist Laura Snowden, has hired the AER Compact 60/2 acoustic amp for public performances before. But this was an extra special performance - for Maria's wedding. There was never going to be any worry about Laura's playing - just glad that the AER delivered exactly as it should too on such a special day!

"We were lucky enough to have this guitar with us for two days. It is such a striking instrument, everything about it: the fretboard with the inlays, the body, the beautiful Bigsby bridge... It is really magical. And the tone - it's incredible: warm and well rounded, even with distortion. It is classy. With this guitar in our hands we could not resist the temptation to record the iconic "Californication" solo, and we had fun by doing a back to back comparison of the White Falcon vs a Stratocaster, and see whether people could tell the difference."
Delighted to have two guitars - the first of a few pairings - feature in a fascinating project by the guys at Guitarearo. They're seeking to record and compare the characteristic sound and tone of a number of classic guitars, making their recordings available via their Guitarearo app. For this first session, it was the turn of the 1985 Rickenbacker 330 and the 1990 Gretsch 7594 White Falcon - both loved, but for me that Californication solo wins it. Many thanks to Laurent for going the extra mile while curating this year's AGM night at Somerset House. French singer/songwriter Nenni was very specific about which guitar she wanted: a Graham Coxon signature Telecaster. Produced only for a limited run around 2011 - which is a great shame, because they really are fantastic guitars. Not so easy to find, but delighted to bestow the appearance of magical powers on Laurent for having sourced an exact match to Nenni's request ;-).

"I came from the US to play for part of my daughter's wedding ceremony, Iain suggested several possibilities based on my requirements. I hired the acoustic six string Gibson Hummingbird with an internal pickup it's sound was delicious and it's appearance sparkling. People noticed and loved the signature hummingbird pick guard. Iain was stellar - conscientious and accommodating. He personally delivered and picked up and even went the extra mile to source some cable converters I needed! I highly recommend Iain and Gods Own Guitars."

An absolute pleasure to catch up with US multi-musician Jay Kearney on his return to London in October. A lovely man, with stories to tell. And a big fan of the Little Martin too, renewing his acquaintance with the guitar while over. I just love it when someone says they're thinking of buying their own once back home!

Multi-musician Jaan Hoogendoorn was looking for an amp to fill an open mic room without the need to run it through a PA. The 2005 Fender Hot Rod DeVille 410 delivered. Or, as Jaan more correctly puts it, more than delivered. For an amp that goes to 12, he didn't need to push it beyond 4 ;-). Love it!

Thanks to Santi from Spanish shoegazers Masking Girlfriend for hiring the 1996 Fender Jag-Stang for bandmate Ratchet Racer to play at their London debut early in October. Add in the Fender Jaguar and two amps hired by bandmate Tomas, they had the blast they absolutely hoped for!
